Dapper

Dapper

Word to look up in the dictionary today: “dapper”. As in, I run into my boss (well, my boss’ boss’ boss, technically — I work for a big company) in the hallway and he goes “Wow - you look dapper today.”

Of course, me being foreign-born and all that (just like everyone else at my work), I was thinking for a split second “is it him or is it me that is now being foreign because I think he means dressed up but I am not quite sure.” Anyway, without missing a beat, I go “I look dapper every day.” He looks at me in that way that bosses who know what they are doing do, and says, “No you don’t.” Then he realizes that that wasn’t nice, so he adds “but you probably don’t want to, because it wouldn’t be the right thing to do.”

This is where I question my earlier interpretation of the word dapper, but decide to leave it at that. I am never going to dress up for a customer visit again. Nordstrom sucks. It makes me look dapper.
